Dale of Norway is returning to its roots with a new collection of garments knitted from natural, undyed wool. Sourced from Uruguayan sheep, this wool ranges in tones from light to dark, creating a naturally heathered palette that highlights the fibre’s raw authenticity. Each fleece is carefully sorted by colour, resulting in subtle blends of browns and greys that showcase the material in its purest form.
The new collection features iconic pieces, including the 1994 women’s sweater, which is a modern update of Dale of Norway’s original Olympic design. It also includes the Setesdal unisex sweater and jacket, known as the original “lusekofte.” New items, including the Hannah cardigan, the Skipsleia unisex sweater, and the Hardanger windproof men's jacket, enhance the collection. Each piece is crafted from lightweight, premium wool, embracing its natural tones rather than altering them with dyes. This approach not only preserves the wool’s integrity but also reduces water and energy consumption, eliminating the need for dye-related chemicals.
“The authenticity and natural quality of undyed yarn align perfectly with our brand,” says Håkon Dyngeland Solem, Creative Director at Dale of Norway. “Introducing undyed wool reconnects us with our early beginnings, when wool was available only in its natural form.”
Over time, naturally pigmented wool was largely overlooked in the textile industry. By returning to undyed wool, Dale of Norway not only restores value to this often-discarded resource but also challenges its design team to create garments that celebrate limited, naturally occurring shades, ensuring each piece is as unique as the wool it is made from.
