Kvadrat is paying homage to its relationship with Peter Saville and Raf Simons by launching the limited-edition Technicolour Fleck Tote Bag.
The all-purpose tote bag represents a meeting of form and fabric from two singular creative minds in the interzone. Simons from fashion and Saville from art and design, brought together by Kvadrat to create an object of utility replete with symbolism.
Released in March in a limited edition of 200, the classic Kvadrat/Raf Simons Tote Bag is made in Technicolour Fleck, an all-wool ‘rural graffiti’ textile designed by Peter Saville. The British artist also designed the bag’s signature woven label, bearing the textile’s item number and colour code. A clean graphic gesture and subtle reference to his iconic work for Factory Records.
The Tote Bag is available in two colours, 0190 black and 0150 grey, with the fabric’s characteristic random flecks. Perfectly proportioned and versatile, it has a zipper with a classic leather pull and an outside pocket. The bag is lined in black cotton with an inner pocket also with a zipper and leather pull.
Branded Kvadrat/Raf Simons/Peter Saville, marking their relationship and dialogues. It was Saville, a longstanding creative consultant to Kvadrat, who introduced Simons to the global design textile company, spawning a decade-long collaboration across high end interior textiles and accessories.
“Peter and I have had so much understanding, respect and love for each other over so many years
and we are both strongly connected with Kvadrat. In a way the bag represents those relationships.
We both believe strongly in something individually but we are also interested in others’ creative
work and how things kind of click in a creative world. With the tote bag, it is not literally that we
did this thing together but it’s how things click. Like the word interzone, I have been obsessed with
that word forever. For me, it’s not about crossing over music and fashion and art, it’s more this
undefined unclear area between the zones, as the word says.” - Raf Simons stated in a press release
“The significant term to mention in any kind of understanding of my work is interzone. The overlapping space between design, art, fashion, music, cinema, photography, architecture, interior… I was never specifically interested in graphics or typography; I was interested in how two-dimensional culture could reflect the mood of the moment — the feeling of the now.” Says Peter Saville in a press release.
The Technicolour Fleck Tote Bag represents a meeting of “two great minds”, says Anders Byriel, CEO of Kvadrat. “Peter originally introduced us to Raf when we wanted to build a brand extension with him. We knew they had a special energy and shared aesthetic references, so it was natural to celebrate the relationship and the dialogues with this collaboration.”
