UNCOVERING THE FORGOTTENDR. MARTENS REUNITES IN A COLLABORATION WITH TATE TO CELEBRATE THE PROVOCATIVE SURREALIST ITHELL COLQUHOUN

Dr. Martens boots, known for their iconic yellow stitching and durability, originated in 1960 as practical footwear for workers like postmen and policemen but have since been embraced by diverse individuals, musicians, and youth cultures worldwide, allowing for customization and serving as a symbol of attitude and empowerment, with some still made in the original Northamptonshire factory.

Ithell Colquhoun, an unyielding pioneer, delved deep into the occult and nature, exploring themes of sex and gender in her art. Despite often being overshadowed by male surrealists, this Tate collaboration highlights her work, using Dr. Martens boots as a unique canvas.

Dr. Martens, a symbol of creativity and resilience, chosen by artists and visionaries, joins forces with Tate to infuse Colquhoun's spirit into the classic 1460 boot, featuring her iconic works 'Volcanic Flare' and 'Example of Decalcomania Technique' © Tate.

These boots encapsulate Dr. Martens' quality with their grooved sole and iconic yellow stitching, complemented by the staple black and yellow heel loop. The collection also includes a backpack adorned with motifs from her art.

Launching on September 28th at drmartens.com and select partners.
