Olaplex has surely had a hectic last year, releasing multiple products that are supposed to recreate our hair from damage, add shine and moisture, as well as protect against heat tools. The latest release from the brand is the No.8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask. And since I was looking for a new hair mask for my dry and curly hair - I thought this could be the one.
The moisture mask is infused with the patented Olaplex Bond Building technology, which we can find in almost every Olaplex product. These bonds are said to give the hair its structure, strength, and stability. When disulfide bonds are broken, it results in damage. So what the building technology does is repair the hair from the inside out with the patented single ingredient, Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate. Concluding in that once all the bonds are intact and in alignment, you have healthy, shiny, touchable hair.
With that said, the Bond Intense Moisture Mask is a highly concentrated reparative mask that is said to add shine and smooth your hair while providing intense moisture. And quickly said - it does, my very dry and frizzy hair became very shiny and felt less frizzy without using my ordinary leave-in conditioner.
How I used it
My review process was that I tried the product with and without conditioner - to make sure it wasn’t my conditioner that made the work. I additionally skipped my leave-in conditioner (which for someone with curly and dry hair is usually a nightmare, yet everything for the most beneficial review).
While I read the instructions the first time - I didn’t understand if this was a mask to have as the last step of your routine (after conditioner) or a classic hair mask to be used before. Considering, I heard that Olaplex's product range usually has a strict order for each product - to give a maximum result. Therefore I simply examined both ways, which actually worked fine.
I continued reading the instructions: you apply the mask to clean, damp hair. From mid-length to ends, and start by using 1 pump at a time, since the product is very rich. Or 2 pumps if you have very long or thick hair - although I think that’s the maximum you need.
Because my hair is curly and dry I used it entirely in my hair, except for the roots, and kept it for 10 minutes (to be honest, the third time I tried it, I just had it for 2-3 minutes, and it worked too). As a result, using it all over, worked for me! Nevertheless, if you have very fine hair and tend to get oily hair, mid-length is the way to go. Since again, the product is very rich.
During my research applying it both after and before conditioner, as well as without conditioner. The product does what it says, my hair felt soft and definitely shinier. I believe No.8 is a product that also will only get better with time. To continue use, at least 2-3 times before you feel a massive difference. Since personally, I thought my hair became even smoother after the second and third try.
Conclusion
I will definitely continue to use the Olaplex mask as a step in my hair care routine, next to my hair nourishment mask and conditioner - which I noticed is the best way. I believe that the more times I will use it, my hair will become even softer and shinier.
